The Safety Team provides a safety presence throughout the District. Safety presence means being watchful for, and reporting, potentially unsafe situations and individuals, as well as actual emergencies. The Safety Team reports suspicious activity, assists with traffic accidents, helps individuals who have fallen on the sidewalk, and disperses panhandlers.
The Safety Team members walk assigned beats and check in on street level businesses as well as providing information, directions, and maps to visitors.
The Safety Team works with LMPD to curtail panhandling activity in the district.
The Team carries information about the locaton of shelters, places to get a free meal, and other services available to homeless people.
Upon request, a Safety Team member will walk people to their cars or other destination after dark or in any situation where a person feels uncomfortable.
The Safety Team aids pedestrians and motorists when they need directions or any other information.
